In a recent memorandum addressed to the members of Haiti’s Presidential Transitional Council, Council member Fritz Alphonse Jean has expressed concern over the rapid decline of public safety in the country. He has called attention to the urgency of the situation and directly questioned the actions of the Prime Minister regarding how the growing violence is being addressed.
Mr. Jean explained that, despite repeated written requests and ongoing discussions, he has yet to receive satisfactory responses about what specific measures are being taken to confront the increasing security challenges. He emphasized that international assistance aimed at strengthening Haiti’s national police force has not produced the desired effect. As a result, the country continues to experience devastating events, including tragic incidents such as the attacks in Cabaret, the loss of eight children due to drone explosives, and the deaths of police officers.
According to Fritz Alphonse Jean, these incidents illustrate the severity of the crisis facing Haiti. He further criticized what he described as the government’s lack of effective communication and decisive action. In his view, promised support—including much-needed aerial assistance—has not yet materialized, and key transportation routes remain blocked, complicating the situation.
Mr. Jean called on the Transitional Council to seriously consider the consequences of this inadequate response, pointing out that each day that passes without action leads to further suffering among the people. He reminded council members that those affected by violence are not just numbers, but individuals and families in their communities. Through his memorandum, he expressed his deep concern and encouraged responsible leadership to seek solutions with compassion and urgency.
