U.S. Embassy in Haiti Issues Statement on Detention of Haitian Businessman Dimitri Vorbe

Port-au-Prince, Haiti — The United States Embassy in Haiti has issued an official statement regarding the recent detention of Haitian businessman Dimitri Vorbe by U.S. authorities in Miami.

According to the Embassy, the U.S. government determined that Mr. Vorbe participated in a campaign of violence and provided support to gang activity that contributed to the ongoing destabilization of Haiti. These findings formed the basis for his arrest and pending deportation proceedings.

In a public message shared via X (formerly Twitter), the Embassy stated:

“The U.S. Department of State has determined that Mr. Vorbe’s presence or activities in the United States would have serious adverse consequences for U.S. foreign policy.”

Mr. Vorbe is widely recognized as a member of Haiti’s business elite. His detention comes amid heightened concerns over gang violence and civil unrest across the country.

The Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting stability and security in Haiti and emphasized that actions taken by U.S. authorities are aligned with broader efforts to address the root causes of violence and promote regional peace.
